Article Processing Charges
Sustainable Science and Innovation (SSI) is a gold open access journal. All published articles are freely accessible to readers without subscription fees. SSI applies an Article Processing Charge (APC) to eligible manuscripts accepted for publication, subject to the following policy:
Manuscripts submitted before January 1, 2028: No APC will be charged for manuscripts initially submitted before January 1, 2028,
provided they are subsequently accepted for publication.
Manuscripts submitted on or after January 1, 2028: The APC is 800 USD per accepted article.
The APC covers the journal's standard editorial administration, manuscript processing, publication preparation, online publication, and dissemination of the accepted article. SSI does not charge submission fees, peer-review fees, standard page charges, colour figure charges, or additional fees for routine online publication.
Taxes on publication charges
The prices quoted do not include any value-added tax (VAT), goods and services tax (GST), or other sales taxes. Tax may be charged in addition to the price shown where required by law. The amount of tax charged will be calculated at the point of sale and identified separately. If you have a VAT, GST, or other sales tax identification number, you should provide this when requested.
If you or the party responsible for payment are tax exempt, instructions will be provided during the payment process regarding where and when to send the tax exemption certificate or other relevant documentation.
APC Waivers and Discounts
SSI recognises that authors may face financial barriers to open access publishing. Full or partial APC waivers may be considered under the following circumstances:
-Country-based eligibility: Corresponding authors affiliated with institutions in eligible low-income countries may qualify for a full or partial waiver.
-Financial hardship: Authors who lack sufficient funding from research grants, institutions, or other sources may apply for a full or partial waiver.
-Other approved arrangements: Waivers or discounts may be granted under formally approved institutional agreements or specific journal initiatives.
Waiver requests are assessed individually and consistently, taking into account the applicable eligibility criteria and, where relevant, the availability of research or institutional funding.
Authors should submit waiver or discount requests at the time of initial submission. Requests should be sent to ssi@ukscip.com and include the manuscript title, corresponding author's name, institutional affiliation, requested waiver level, and a brief explanation of the circumstances. Supporting documentation may be requested where necessary. Authors will be notified of the outcome in writing. Unless a waiver or discount has been approved in writing, the applicable APC policy will apply.
Waiver requests are handled separately from editorial evaluation. The availability or outcome of a waiver will not influence peer review, editorial decisions, or publication priority. A waiver does not guarantee manuscript acceptance.
