For over three decades, I have witnessed the evolution of sustainable science from a niche concern to a global imperative. My own journey began with developing synthetic methods in green solvents—work guided by the very principles of green chemistry laid out by the US EPA. From there, it expanded into applications that I never imagined possible when I first started: engineering new biologics, advancing plastic recycling, converting biomass into biofuels and platform chemicals, and even discovering novel methods to enhance plant growth.

Throughout these thirty years, one truth has become unmistakably clear: sustainability is not a constraint—it is the most powerful driver of innovation we have.

Yet, too often, transformative research remains trapped in disciplinary silos or is rushed to publication without fully honoring the systems-thinking that sustainability demands. This journal—dedicated to Sustainable Science and Innovation—is being launched to change that. We are not interested in incremental “greening” of conventional processes. We seek the bold, the rigorous, and the reproducible: work that actively solves the overlapping crises of resource depletion, waste accumulation, climate instability, and ecosystem degradation.

To the researcher in the lab designing a closed-loop catalytic cycle—to the field scientist testing a bio-based plastic that truly degrades—to the engineer scaling up biomass conversion with real economic viability: this is your home. We invite you to publish your best work here. Not your leftovers. Your breakthroughs.

The problems we face are urgent, but they are also solvable. Let this journal be the archive of those solutions.
